Visual therapy is recommended for people diagnosed with amblyopia (lazy eye), low grade squint (10-15%), high grade squint (combined pre- and post-operative therapy).
Children can follow the computer vision therapy protocol from the age of 5-6 years, depending on the child’s psychomotor development. For patients under 5 years of age, Optisan Clinic specialists, after a specialist consultation, will recommend a series of classical vision therapy techniques to improve vision.
Visual therapy protocols are recommended for both children and adults, regardless of age, and are most effective in young people and most effective in children. In general, children, teenagers and young adults recover 100% vision, and adults over 40 can improve their vision by at least 30%.
The first consultation for patients with amblyopia or strabismus involves a set of specific investigations to establish all the particularities of the case and the choice of an individualized protocol.
After all investigations have been carried out during the initial consultation, the ophthalmologist determines whether the patient is eligible for the vision therapy protocol. To schedule your first consultation,

The vision therapy session is scheduled only after the ophthalmologist determines whether the patient is eligible for the vision therapy protocol. Therefore, the therapy session cannot start immediately after the initial consultation.
After the ophthalmologist establishes the treatment protocol, the vision therapy sessions are carried out both in the clinic under the direct coordination of the therapist and at home where, after the patient logs into the vision therapy application on a PC or laptop, he/she will follow the vision therapy sessions according to the protocol established by the specialist.
The visual therapy protocol can last from 6 months to 18 months, depending on the type of condition, psycho-cognitive abilities and patient compliance. The STANDARD protocol lasts 6 months and includes: 3 sessions of 5-day in-clinic visual therapy sessions every 3 months and a set of home therapy sessions, carried out daily for 6 months (in parallel with in-clinic therapy).
The first session of vision therapy lasts one week. Subsequently, the ophthalmologist will determine the frequency of sessions at the clinic, depending on the evolution and prognosis.
In most cases, visible results occur after the first 5 days of therapy at the clinic, where patients’ visual acuity increases from 5% to 20% (depending on the degree and type of the condition and other aspects of the case).
A home therapy session lasts about 30 minutes.
Over 98% of our patients have improved their vision with the help of the customized vision therapy protocols offered in our clinic. Patients aged 5 to 56 years achieved an improvement in visual acuity of at least 30%. We cannot guarantee a complete cure, but certainly if the therapy protocol is followed as indicated by the ophthalmologist, considerable improvement can be achieved. More than 1500 patients with amblyopia and strabismus have been successfully treated so far at Optisan Clinic.
